Danish cinema is the third most honored country in the field of foreign Oscars, after France and Italy, after the fourth Oscar in the category of the best non-English language film.
Denmark first won the Academy Award for Best Non-English Language Film in 1987 for “The Banquet” by Gabriel Axel, and again the following year for “The Conqueror” by Bill August. Susan Beer also won Denmark the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film for the third time in 2010 for “In a Better World.”
