Amazon has set out to produce the most expensive series in history, allocating $ 465 million to make just one season of The Lord of the Rings.
The Hollywood Reporter reports that the production of the first season of The Lord of the Rings will cost Amazon $ 465 million. It was previously estimated that the $ 500 million epic series would break the record for the most expensive series in history for a few seasons, but the new cost estimate went even higher.
“Amazon is going to spend around $ 650 million (US $ 465) just to build the first season,” New Zealand Minister for Economic Development and Tourism Stuart Nash told the Morning Report. This is really wonderful. This series becomes the biggest TV series in history.
By comparison, each season of the popular Game of Thrones series cost HBO only about $ 100 million. The cost of making each episode of the series started from about $ 6 million in the first season and reached $ 15 million in the eighth season.
Of course, the published figures are not only related to the cost of making the first season of the Lord of the Rings series. The purchase of the copyright to Tolkien’s works cost about $ 250 million, and a costly location has been created in New Zealand, which will be used in other seasons, from stage supplies to costume cast.
Amazon declined to comment.
Amazon Film Studio bought the rights to adapt the Lord of the Rings novels in 2017. Amazon’s epic adaptation of this best-selling series takes place thousands of years before The Adventures of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers to a time when great powers were created, realms peaked and fell, heroes were tested, and hope was tied. And the greatest anti-hero of Tolkien’s stories threatened to plunge the whole world into darkness.
The Lord of the Rings series will air until the end of this year. Robert Aramayo, Evin Arthur, Nazanin Bonyadi, Ismail Cruz, Joseph Mol are among the actors of this series.
